Wild parties full of booze, poor decisions and chaos are essential to every college movie and TV show ever. The reality is a bit different. Read on to get the real scoop on what college parties are like at Nebraska.

THERE'S MORE THAN ONE
KIND OF COLLEGE PARTY

Some parties do get a bit crazy, but rarely are they major blowouts like Hollywood portrays. For the most part, college parties are more like chill hangouts and—get this—a lot of them don’t even have alcohol.

PEER PRESSURE IS RARE
AND STUDENTS KNOW IT'S NOT COOL

Even if there’s alcohol at a party, you don’t need to drink a drop if you don’t want to. Nebraska students have dished that pressure to drink at parties is not common and people realize how lame it is, so if someone does get a little pushy with the booze, you can simply walk away and be confident that that person is the anomaly and there are cooler people around.

If the party vibe isn’t your thing, know that you’re not alone. Maybe you’re really introverted, or maybe you’re just really into the book you’re reading right now—no matter what your reason, you’ll still make friends in college even if you pass on party invites. People who want to hang the same way you do are out there. Join clubs, be honest about your feelings and you’ll find your people.

BE MINDFUL

Relaxing with an adult beverage shouldn’t mean losing self-awareness or ending up in regretful situations.
